ODM party has declared it would field candidates in all elective positions within Kilifi County because it is one of its stronghold counties.
Consequently, the party has warned the local Governor Amazon Kingi against misleading the public that his party PAA would be one to clear candidates for the Azimio la Umoja umbrella.
Mr Teddy Mwambie, the Chair of the Kilifi County ODM coordinating committee, said: “Contrary to information attributed to Mr Kingi, I wish to clarify that ODM will be fielding candidates in all electoral positions across the Coast Region and not just in Kilifi County.
“If Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi isn’t comfortable with such an arrangement, he is free to support any of the presidential candidates, or he can as well offer himself for that post.”
The ODM boss added that no political party can purport to be “the only preference” in the polls.
He pointed that under current scenario of coalitions, the ODM still remains a dominant political party in the Coast Region, and it cannot be expected to forfeit its position to the recently formed PAA.
He reminded Governor Kingi that his PAA outfit joined the Azimio la Umoja through other superior political parties namely Jubilee hence it has no capacity to claim any role in deciding on coalition candidates.
“As ODM we welcome all political party players in the Azimio la Umoja Coalition Party but not with unrealistic demands such as Governor Kingi is putting,” Mr Mwambie said in a signed press statement.
He said the Governor and all other leaders should adhere to the Azimio la Umoja Coalition guidelines and refrain from misleading the people on the nomination affairs.
