Former Kwale women representative Zainab Chidzuga has called on the national government to publicise names of individuals receiving monthly cash transfers.

Speaking to journalists Thursday at Diani, Kwale County, Chidzuga claimed the initiative lacks transparency.

Chidzuga notes that lack of transparency in the program denies locals of their constitutional rights.

“There is a need for the office of the county commissioner to highlight all the beneficiaries of the cash transfer that is done on a monthly basis. I don’t think the targeted individuals receive the cash,” she alleged.

She wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to closely monitor the initiative to ensure transparency and accountability.

Her sentiments were echoed by Moses Odhiambo, a youth from Cossovo village in Ukunda who lost his job following the pandemic who is yet to receive the government stipend.

He wants the government to intervene and ensure only targeted individuals benefit.

“We are now suffering just because a foreigner tested positive of corona virus. Im among the beneficiaries but todate I have received nothing, “claimed Mr.Odhiambo.

The national government started the initiative to support Kenyans highly affected by Corona pandemic.
