Politician’s Mother to Be Buried in Rural Home

The family of former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has resolved to have their mother buried at their rural home Ngao London in Tana River County.

Martha Mungatana who passed on 2nd January 2021 at 10 pm following a high blood pressure issue will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Ngao village where she lived since she got married to late Kear Mungatana.

In a statement to media houses indicates that the late Martha Mungatana was 72 years old and was a mother to Harold Mungatana, Professor Erick Mungatana Caroline Mungatana, Hon Danson Mungatana (MGH) and Dr Ceaser Mungatana.

“The family would wish to have a decent send off to our dear Mum as we celebrate her well lived years,” said the statement in part as released by Danson Mungatana.

According to it the late Martha Mungatana had a major contribution in women development in Tana River for she was the founder of YWCA in Tana River, focus on matters education and fighting for the rights of widows.

DARLING OF MEDIA

She was a darling of some media personalities as she frequently engaged with them whenever they visited the little known Ngao village as they covered the former legislator whenever he had a function.

Jonas Mobinya a cameraman with the National Broadcaster KBC remembers Mama Martha for being a caring and welcoming mother.

“She used to consider Journalists as friends to her son and would serve them on the same table with him who was by then an assistant minister.” he said.

Several journalists who sort anonymity and had a close interaction with her said Mama Martha would be remembered for her big heart, selflessness and the will to serve anyone anytime.

“She never assigned anyone to serve us but she did it by herself in her small sitting room. You could really feel you’re at home and the love of a very caring mother would ever be there for you… What a Mum”.

In his message of condolences, Tana River Governor Dhadho Ghodhana wrote: ”The County of Tana River has lost one of its greatest naturers. Mama Martha Mungatana was a special woman who helped shape the destiny of our people by her various works as a parent and as a member of the society…and it went on”

The body of Mama Martha is lying at Star Hospital Mortuary in Malindi waiting for her burial.
