Another Two People Missing in Mombasa Bringing Toll to 61

Two people in Mombasa have gone missing and their families have expressed fear over their lives.

Families of Mwinyi Mwinyi, 41, and Mohammed Ngedeli, 38, say the two have disappeared without trace for three and eight days, respectively.

The kin addressed a media conference at Haki Afrika offices in Mombasa on Wednesday to call on members of public to help in tracing the two men.

The two families suspected that the disappearances could be result of an abduction by police officers.

They said Mwinyi was picked at his home at night while Ngedeli was picked in a daybroad light at the town centre by armed unknown people whom they suspect could be police officers.

Mwinyi’s wife Munir Abdalla, said she’s not aware of any criminal record of her husband since the time they got married 20 years ago.

“I’ve been married for the last twenty years and I’ve not heard of any ill doing done by my husband,” Munir lamented.

She it was in the evening when they were planning to go to the hospital but then they heard people outside shouting that her husband was being taken away by armed unknown people.

Four people allegedly involved were heard telling he was under arrest.

Ms said that since Monday, they have been trying to get to him but to no avail.

She’s now crying to the government to help them find his whereabouts and present him before court just in case he committed any crime.

Mwinyi’s wife says he’s the sole breadwinner in a family of five children and she cannot fend for the family so far.

His mother Riziki Mwinyi also pleaded to the government to produce her son saying she depends on him as his parents passed away long time ago. 

His daughter also cried out saying it is affecting them and they haven’t been to school ever since the incident happened on Monday. 

She described him as the best dad.

Deputy Executive Director of Haki Africa Salma Hemed demanded that the government present Mwinyi before a court of law and charge him, if at all he has committed any crime.

Abducting him is a psychological toorture to the family.

She says that incident make the total number of cases of people abducted by police to be 61 with only 30 having been found alive.

She said: “These cases of missing persons are getting too much everyday with at least five people being reported to have gone missing.

’As an organization that deals with human rights we are tired and we are calling out for the President to do something about it.

“If Mwinyi won’t be returned to his family, Haki Africa will have to prepare a mass demonstration in 7 days,” Added Salma.

Ngedeli’s wife Santa Charo said her husband was picked by unknown people after being released from court where he was accused of being an Al-Shabaab agent.

“When we reached the Mombasa CBD he was arrested once again by officers in two cars who came and took him, covering him with black clothes.
