Kenya Ports Authority has made a decisive move to adopt new Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system in transforming its procurement landscape.
This strategic shift, came into effect on July 1, 2025 and it is set to revolutionize KPA’s procurement processes.
The system is envisaged to ensure greater efficiency, transparency, accountability and cost-effectiveness.
The government’s rollout of the comprehensive e-GP system mandates that all procurement, including those under framework agreements, be processed through the digital platform.
The goal is to streamline operations and eliminate outdated manual procedures that have long hindered progress in public sector procurement.
Speaking at a training session held at the Bandari Maritime Academy, the authority’s managing director Captain William Ruto emphasized the transformative power of technology in reshaping the procurement process.
He told KPA staff the importance of adopting the new system that promises to enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.
“The e-GP system is more than just a tool. It’s a milestone in our journey towards a modern, accountable, and efficient public sector,” he said.
“It aligns us with Kenya’s broader vision of transforming government services into a more accessible, transparent, and efficient process for everyone.”
The training session, facilitated by experts from the National Treasury, is part of authority’s broader effort to upskill its workforce.

This will ensure all involved in procurement and supply chain management are equipped to confidently navigate the new platform.
According to the MD the e-GP system is not just a matter of efficiency it is a significant step towards ensuring that public resources are managed with integrity.
The adoption of this system will result in faster procurement cycles, better data management, and strict adherence to national standards.
“The move to the e-GP system will reduce inefficiencies, mitigate risks of fraud, and ultimately the training. It also marked a pivotal moment in KPA’s commitment to aligning with the government’s overarching goal of creating a transparent, responsive, and efficient public service,” Captain said.
In addition to staff members directly involved in procurement, the next phase of training will extend to KPA’s general managers and senior heads of leadership, thus, ensuring a top-down understanding and commitment to the e-GP system.
Capt Ruto urged all KPA employees to embrace the transition with enthusiasm and actively engage in the ongoing training initiatives.
“Your commitment to learning and adapting is critical to the success of this system. Together, we will build a modern Ports Authority capable of meeting the demands of the future.”
The implementation of the e-GP system positions KPA as a trailblazer in Kenya’s public sector procurement landscape.
As one of the first major public entities to fully embrace the digital procurement revolution, KPA is setting a new standard for efficiency and transparency, aligning with Kenya’s broader development objectives.

With the full implementation of the e-GP system, KPA is not only setting itself up for greater operational success, but is also contributing significantly to the government’s vision for a modern, agile, and responsive public service.
As the system continues to roll out across all government entities, KPA’s leadership in adopting this digital procurement platform ensures it remains at the forefront of modern, efficient, and accountable public administration.
