Gold Winners be Accorded Priority in Public Recruitment, Mvurya says

The government has a plan to ensure youths who win gold medals under the President’s Awards Kenya are given first priority in securing jobs in the public sector.
Youth affairs, creative economy and sports cabinet secretary Salim Mvurya said government was determined to create and nurture better future for the youths not just in Kenya, but across the continent.
He added that President William Ruto had directed that youths who excelled under that program should be given the first priority as they had proven some degree of resilience and acquired technical know-how in matters governance and leadership.
The CS directed that unfortunate youths who failed to undergo formal education but had acquired some technical knowledge in various disciplines should be assessed and issued with certificates.
According him He such certificates will help them acquire recognition in different business areas across the country.
“All gold medal holders under the Presidents Awards program must be accorded some presidency in the public service recruitment.”
He noted that the mentorship acquired through the program fosters some discipline in development of youths and skills .
The CS called on different private organizations to join hands and invest in the development of youths across the continent to enable them acquire various skills, knowledge and attitudes that would be of great help to their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the African Regional Conference AIF chairman Muhoho Kenyatta challenged the African leadership to be more robust in youths’ development for a positive change.

He expressed the need to invent more avenues and more opportunities for youths empowerment in the country and continent at large.
The African Regional Conference brought together youths from eleven countries out of the fifteen that had been invited.
In attendance, was the newly appointed principal secretary for Youths Fikirini Jacobs who expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the event saying it was timely and pivotal to youths empowerment.
Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir a beneficiary of the program said his office fully supports the initiative that aims at empowering the youth for a better life.
President’s Award-Kenya, was founded in 1966 and it is a member of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award that oversees the award programme in over 140 countries across the globe.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award was founded by His Royal Highness (HRH), The Duke of Edinburgh KG, KT in 1956, in conjunction with Kurt Hahn, a German educationalist and Sir John Hunt.
