Biyubu Village of Ganze Constituency in Kilifi County has made a mark in the national arena after President William Ruto nominated Fikirini Jacobs as principal secretary for youth affairs and sports courtesy of Raila-Ruto pact signed on March 7, 2025.

Since the presidential announcement, villagers have been thronging Jacobs’ home in large numbers to celebrate his nomination.

The residents, led by his mother, Zosi Katoi, described her son as a role model for the youth saying his perseverance in overcoming financial hardships to excel in school contributed to his appointment.

According to her the son schooled through community harambee and well-wisher contributions to complete his education attainments.

“We also used to resort to charcoal burning and selling households to raise school fees for Fikirini, but as a family we never stopped encouraging him to work hard,” she said.

She said that the Kenya Kwanza government’s appointment of his son was a ‘thank you’ for resiliency and hardwork.

“We thank President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga for the cooperation because it aims at equitable distribution of resources and balance of power in the country.

I have confident in his appointment and I believe he will champion the interest of youth at the national level,” she added.

Kaingu Kenga, a village elder, expressed confident that his leadership will bring meaningful change to the ministry.

“Fikirini has served the youth in different capacities in the country, landing the plum post in government I am optimistic that he will deliver. We are happy that for the first time in history, a youth from Bamba has been appointed to plum post under the Kenya Kwanza government. This appointment will show the people of Kilifi are part and parcel of the government,” he said.

Fikirini attended Mwakitawa Secondary School in Taita Taveta County in 2011 before rising to leadership role as a student at Pwani university.

He then later served as a national leader for university students association in 2019.

Before his appointment as PS, Fikirini was serving as the governor’s delivery service unity under the Kilifi County government.

Mnagoni sub-location assistant chief Japthet Kalume described Fikirini as technocrat with an impeccable development track record adding that naming him as PS shows the government recognizes the role played by the people of Kilifi.

“Fikirini is one of our finest role model with an irreproachable moral standing. Our president has done a very honourable act to consider the people of Bamba and Kilifi,” he said.

Other residents who thronged the home of Fikirini wished the new PS good luck and asked him to deliver exemplary service to the nation.
