Telecommunication giant, Safaricom PLC, has backed East Africa regional member states’ resolutions to strengthen the health security systems so as to deal with pandemics or diseases.
The company, which was part and parcel of the recently concluded health security summit in Mombasa, says the meeting presented an opportunity to foster collaboration and innovation through interactive discussions.
The company’s business section intends to expand market opportunities for its integrated solutions in the untapped and underserved regions, ultimately empowering communities through transformative technology.
Safaricom chief enterprise business office Cynthia Kropac said through its foundation the company would continue to invest heavily in supporting healthcare systems in Kenya.
The company representatives said the platform highlighted the critical role of technology in addressing healthcare challenges, driving equitable service delivery, and building resilient systems to prepare communities for future emergencies.
“As a company, we are ready to support digitisation of health care systems in Kenya, in conjunction with the government. We want to ensure seamless connectivity, especially in the telemedicine sector,” she said.
Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, she said Safaricom was committed to ensure healthcare systems got the best technologies so as to deliver quality healthcare for Kenyans.
The East Africa Global Health Summit was a platform that brought together healthcare stakeholders, policymakers and partners to strategise on enhancing regional healthcare security for East African communities.
The summit focused on building resilient health systems and ensuring sustainable preparedness for public health emergencies.
The key discussants centered on the role of the private sector in supporting public health agencies, particularly during emergencies and the importance of regulatory and policy alignment to improve emergency preparedness and response.
The summit also explored how Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can revolutionise healthcare delivery while ensuring equitable access to healthcare services.
