The government, through the Ministry of Health, is working round the clock to ensure its accessibility so that children could be vaccinated against TB infections.

“I want to assure Kenyans that the government has put mechanisms to ensure the vaccine will be rolled out in the next two weeks to benefit our children.”

According to Dr Barasa the government is implementing robust measures to prevent any potential infections, particularly following the recently reports of new cases of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China.

She clarified that, so far, no cases of HMPV have been confirmed in the country, but the government was, however, intensifying preparedness to ensure the country was safe.

“I want to reassure my fellow Kenyans that no cases of HMPV have been reported so far. As a government, we are putting in place solid strategies so that we are fully prepared in case the virus emerges.”

Regarding the looming strike by clinical officers next week, Dr Barasa disclosed that the government was in talks with all clinical officers’ stakeholders to avert the strike.

“As a government, we are actively engaging with clinical officers to ensure the strike does not happen next week, and we are confident that the discussions will yield positive results.”

Dr Barasa made the remarks during a meeting held in Mombasa County that brought together health stakeholders from the East African region.
