Likoni MP Mishi Mboko has allocated Sh50 million from the national government constituency development fund (NGCDF) kitty to fund education of needy students in her constituency.

Mboko, on January 6, 2025, distributed bursary forms targeting more than 10,000 learners in secondary schools, technical and training institutes and universities.

At her Likoni Constituency NCDF office, she said no needy child would be left out and urged parents to adhere to set guidelines of filling the application.

The interventions, she added, target to equip young people with relevant skills that would help them secure or create jobs for themselves in future.

She challenged the youth to go for skill oriented courses to make them ready for the job market.

“With the special economic zone (SEZ) development taking shape here in Likoni, we anticipate that the skills our young people will acquire from TVETs will help them secure meaningful jobs here in Likoni.”

The legislator cautioned parents against abdicating their parental roles saying juvenile crimes had increased in the area.

She regretted the recent incident of a 14 year old boy gunned down when caught indulging in deadly criminal activities.

“We are asking parents to ensure that a child that should be in school remains in school. We are asking our authorities especially security personnel to ensure crime is brought down in Likoni.”

She expressed her desire to maintain control of NCDF funds so that she could help the needy students access education as she opposed plans to consolidate all bursary schemes.

The MP raised issues and concerns about the accessibility of funds from the treasury in Nairobi saying that would disadvantage many a students in dire need of education assistance.
