A family from Malindi in Kilifi County is living in fear after goons descended on their home and demolished houses warning them to leave the land.

The family was forced to spend the cold night after more than 100 goons supervised by people in two vehicles tore down two houses and a kitchen dead in the night.

Jacob Hinzano, one of the family members now demands justice and intervention of the political class after what they termed as an attempt by a local tycoon to grab their four-and-a-half-acre land.

Hinzano 42- years said that they have lived on the parcel of land ever since he was nine years old and all his siblings were born there and wondered why their home could be demolished without court orders.

“I have lived on this land ever since I was nine years and my brothers and sisters were born here but it’s shocking that those goons could invade the property dead in the night and demolished the houses leaving us and our children in the cold,” he said.

Francis Ngonyo who was present during the raid, said that the goons arrived in two vehicles and after demolishing the houses they warned us not to rebuild again.

“They were masked and with crude weapons and tools and they told us that their mission was not to harm us but to demolish the houses as per the instruction they were given by their supervisors who had remained in the two vehicles. I want President William Ruto to intervene in this matter since he promised Kenyans that no one will ever be evicted on their land illegally,” he said.

He added that they were now living in fear with no clear future plans as the attackers said they will return if they reconstruct their houses.
