The International WeLoveU Foundation (Chairwoman Zhang Gil-jah, hereinafter referred to as WeLoveU), a global welfare organization, held the 917th Worldwide Blood Drive at the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service in Starehe on August 30, 2026.

A representative from WeLoveU said, “Blood donation is a warm act of sharing that saves the lives of our neighbors and helps them maintain good health. Our members and citizens have come together to donate blood. We hope this acct of generosity will encourage those in need of blood. We will continue sharing warmth with our community.”

About 100 people, including WeLoveU members, their families, and neighbors, visited the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service (KNBTS) in Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in the morning.

Forty-eight of them donated 21,600 ml of healthy blood. KNBTS supported the entire donation process to ensure the safe and successful conduct of the blood donation event.

Wafula Maurice said he had taken good care of his heath before donating blood, adding, “I wanted to be in good condition so that I could share healthy blood with someone who urgently needs it.

Knowing that my small act of kindness could help save someone’s life makes me very happy. I hope more people will join this life-saving movement.” Burns Barasa said with a satisfied smile, “This was a meaningful opportunity to share love with our neighbors.

Donating blood does not take much time, but it can make a tremendous difference to someone who is fighting for their life. I am grateful to be part of an event that brings people together to save lives.”

Blood is essential for saving the lives of patients who need transfusions, but there is still no substitute for human blood, and it cannot be synthesized artificially.

Moreover, blood cannot be stored for long periods. That’s why consistent blood donations are needed.

To practice the virtue of sharing life, WeLoveU launched the Worldwide Blood Drive in Korea in 2004.

The Worldwide Blood Drive” is a global life-saving movement that promotes a virtuous cycle of sharing, where one person’s act of blood donation encourages others to do the same.

As of June this year, over 151,000 people in 67 countries had participated in the blood drive, of whom about 67,000 had donated blood. Considering that one donation can help save up to three lives, the blood drive has helped save more than 200,000 people.

In February, the Worldwide Blood Drive was also held at the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service and Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Embakasi, respectively, drawing a total of 151 participants.

WeLoveU has been continuously carrying out a wide range of welfare activities, including blood donation.

Last year, WeLoveU repaired educational facilities damaged by flooding, conducted hygiene education, and donated school supplies and hygiene kits to students in Mathare North Primary School, Nairobi.

In 2024, WeLoveU donated two 10,000-litre water tanks to Tassia Kwa Ndege Hospital (Level 4) in Nairobi, and installed a water pump in Olengo Village, Siaya, providing clean drinking water for the residents.

In addition, WeLoveU took the lead in environmental protection efforts by planting trees in locations such as Kangemi Recreational Park in Nairobi and Uplands Forest in Kiambu, as part of the “Mom’s Garden” project.
