Coast to Stay Put in Government, Party SG Affirms

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary-general Hassan Omar Hassan says the Coast region is finally sitting at the national table and is strategically placed to reap development benefits under President William Ruto’s administration.

That is why, according to him, the region has no reason to abandon President Ruto in his 2027 re-election bid.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with village elders and Nyumba Kumi Mabalozi from Mvita Subcounty at Burhani Grounds in Mombasa on Monday, August 24, 2026, he said any leader opposed to the broad-based government was an enemy of development in the region.

“Sisi sio hao wa kungojea nazi kuanguka, sisi tunatengeneza nazi zetu na kuziendea pale juu,” he said.

The Coast, he says, is now part of national development planning unlike in previous regimes.

“President Ruto is the first president out of the dynasties, that’s why they are fighting him. Ruto has the Coast region at heart, unlike former administrations.”

The SG, who was flanked by Transport principal secretary Mohamed Daghar, said the Kenya Kwanza government has prioritised the regional flagship projects.

According to the PS out of more than 207,000 affordable housing units under construction countrywide at least 12,609 units are in Mombasa County.

He asked residents to back President Ruto’s second-term bid saying his re-election would be anchored on affordable housing, youth empowerment through the Nyota programme, and infrastructure development.

“There is no investment in roads bigger than what is happening in Mombasa. The government has invested heavily in Mombasa than in any other part of the country,” he said urging residents to reciprocate by voting for Ruto.

The SG also took a swipe at Nyali MP Mohamed Ali who is backed by the opposition in the race for Mombasa gubernatorial seat.

“Nimeongea na William Ruto, yeye ndiye anajua azma yangu ya kusimama governor hapa Mombasa. I have no reason to abandon my ambition to vie for Mombasa County governor,” he said.

The former Mombasa Senator said he would be on the ballot in 2027 to “save Mombasa from lack of governance and accountability.”

Meanwhile, Joshua Muthoka, who represented the Mombasa County Commissioner, said the government was considering stipends for Nyumba Kumi Mabalozi in recognition of their role in grassroots security.
