Green Eagles Hold Nerve to Reach Sisi Ni Dola Cup Final

Green Eagles kept their cool from the spot to book a place in the Sisi Ni Dola Cup final beating Nyundo FC 4-3 on penalties after a tense 0-0 draw at Mombasa Sports Club on Monday, August 10, 2026.

It was a bruising semi-final that saw both sides create half-chances, but lacked the final touch.

With tempers flaring, the center referee was kept busy, and to prove his authority, numerous yellow cards were unleashed.

Green Eagles picked up four cautions through Kai Kombo on 50 minutes, Swaleh Yanga on 64, Omar Zebedayo on 70, and Kassim Beuchi in stoppage time.

At the same time, Nyundo FC were also warned with Suleiman Kahema booked on 65 minutes.

Despite enjoying a big fan base and fielding several Bandari youth players, Nyundo were made to work hard by an Eagles side riding an unbeaten run.

The Mvita boys defended deep and frustrated their opponents absorbing pressure before hitting on the break.

The match was decided from 12 yards.Two Nyundo players failed to convert while Eagles held their nerve to edge through 4-3.

“It was one of the toughest matches for my side. We prepared for any eventuality,” said Green Eagles coach Davis Koncheli.

“We promise a very entertaining final. We played very well, we were ready for everything, and luckily we won on penalties.”

Koncheli also revealed three of his players have been spotted by scouts and would travel to Nairobi for trials with a top-tier club.

Nyundo FC coach Swaleh Abdalla was left to lament missed opportunities in the second half.

“We had chances during the second half but we failed to capitalize on them. They are lucky because they scored all their penalties.The tournament has proved the region has massive talent,” Abdalla said.

Man of the Match Jacob Mchiri said consistency in training got Eagles over the line.

“It was a fantastic match and we promise our opponents to brace for a tough final,” Mchiri said after picking up the MVP award.

Hundreds of fans turned up at Mombasa Sports Club turning the ground into a cauldron and underlining the growing appetite for football in the region.

Dola Group Sports director Hassan Kipapa said the cup was achieving its goal of unearthing talent.

“Mombasa has become a very rich hub for talent which has been exhibited by youth in the Sisi Ni Dola Cup tournament. Scouts are ongoing. We have a youth from Juventus joining Mogoori Youth and we also have some going to Spain. This is our commitment that we will continue to nurture talent,” Kipapa said.

Attention now turns to Tuesday’s second semi-final where Alshifaa Media host Azam FC from Kwale County for the right to face Green Eagles in the final.
