Tobias Messo was the star of the day after clinching top honours at the KenGen Golf Tournament held at Kericho Golf Club over the weekend.

In a field of over 80 golfers drawn from Kisii, Nakuru, Njoro and other clubs, Messo delivered a composed and consistent round to win Division Two with 23 points.

His performance also earned him the Overall Nett title sealing his place as the tournament’s biggest winner.

The event, played under the Stableford format, tested players with challenging greens and shifting weather, making consistency decisive across all divisions.

Reuben Langat dominated Division One with 37 points edging Lawrence Tesot by a single point in one of the day’s tightest contests.

Langat’s round also secured him the Overall Gross title confirming his class among low-handicap players.

In Division Three, Dennis Yegon carded 37 points to claim victory, narrowly beating Fernandes Korir in another close finish.

Tournament organisers praised the turnout and level of play noting that the KenGen event continues to attract golfers countrywide and serves as a key platform for nurturing talent and strengthening club ties.

“The competition was stiff, but that’s what makes the game exciting. We are seeing more players coming in from different clubs, which is good for the growth of golf in the region,” said one organiser.

The Kericho course, known for its lush greens and demanding layout once again tested both skill and mental resilience.

Speaking after his win, Messo credited discipline and focus for his success.

“The course demanded patience and smart shot selection. I stayed disciplined throughout the round,” Messo said.

The tournament underscored the rising competitiveness of amateur golf in the region with players bringing both experience and flair to the fairways of Kericho.
