Lamu County, Kenya: The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) operating under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) in collaboration with United States Civil Affairs officers from Camp Simba, conducted a Civil–Military Cooperation (CIMIC) outreach at Mokowe Arid Mixed Day and Boarding School in Lamu County.

The engagement, themed “Pathways to Service and Nation Building: Opportunities and the Role of KDF in Society,” brought together students, school leadership, representatives from the Kenya Red Cross, Lamu Women for Peace, and officials from the Lamu County Government.

The initiative forms part of ongoing non-kinetic efforts designed to strengthen trust, legitimacy, and resilience within local communities.

The Officer in Charge of the CIMIC team under Operation Amani Boni noted that KDF’s mandate extends beyond safeguarding territorial integrity.

> “Through structured community engagements such as this, we seek to foster trust and resilience among the people we serve. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders in national security, public service, and community development. By mentoring them, we are investing in sustainable peace and long-term stability.”

Speaking during the outreach, Captain Andrew Hunt, Team Leader, US Civil Affairs Team, emphasized the importance of partnership and education in promoting security and development.

> “This outreach reflects our continued partnership with the Kenya Defence Forces and our shared commitment to community support. We believe education is a powerful tool for stability, equipping young people with the knowledge to resist exploitation by extremist elements and to contribute positively to their communities. Our collaboration underscores a unified commitment to interoperability and to investing in a future of peace, stability, and long-term growth for Kenya.”

Representing the Lamu County Government, Mr. Shee Kupi Shee, from County Department of Public Service Management commended the joint initiative and reminded students of their responsibility as future nation builders.

> “Education is a privilege protected by the daily sacrifices of our security forces at Manda Base and Camp Simba. Our children are able to study safely and comfortably because of their commitment. I encouraged the students to cultivate respect, discipline, and patriotism as Nation building begins with character.”

The County representative further highlighted the positive impact of the outreach on learners.

> “The smiles of our innocent children were sparked when the forces distributed biscuits, tins of beans and pineapple, sanitary pads, stationery, and other essential education-supporting materials. Beyond the donations, this gesture symbolized solidarity, compassion, and shared responsibility for the well-being of our students.”

The Lamu County Department of Public Service Management expressed appreciation to the joint gallant officers for their continued partnership and commitment to community welfare.

The Department takes pride in this collaboration and reaffirmed its resolve to support such initiatives to a sustainable level, noting that enhanced trust between security agencies and the community is a prerequisite for a peaceful and stable society.

The outreach concluded with the distribution of essential supplies, reinforcing the shared commitment of security agencies and civil stakeholders to enhancing student welfare and strengthening community well-being.

The CIMIC engagement demonstrates the continued partnership between KDF, U.S.
