United Democratic Alliance party has dropped its signature face and voice Aisha Jumwa for former Kilifi County Assembly Speaker Jimmy Kahindi as its preferred gubernatorial candidate come the 2027 general election.
This puts the former ruling party cabinet secretary Jumwa in a precarious political situation on what to do or where to go to for the governorship seat.
The vociferous and abrasive Kilifi politician found herself in a catch-22 situation after the UDA secretary general Hassan Omar Hassan made remarks about this new development over the weekend at Anglican Church of Kenya Holy Trinity in Kericho during the county’s sensitization exercise ahead of the party’s grassroots in 20 counties.
Sensing her usefulness for the party in power had wane over time, Jumwa defected to the Senate Speaker Amason Kingi’s Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) last week.

“He (Jimmy Kahindi) was the speaker for Kilifi County Assembly for ten years and now that Aisha (Jumwa) has defected to PAA we will field him as our governor candidate for Kilifi County,” the SG said.
Kahindi headed President William Ruto’s 2022 campaigns in Kilifi County after he was denied the ODM ticket that was instead handed to Gideon Mung’aro who went ahead to win the governorship seat in the August 2022 polls.
Currently, Kahindi is a member of UDA’s National Elections Board that is charged with conducting party nominations and elections.
According to the SG the party will field candidates across the board come 2027 and was preparing the ground by strengthening its grassroots structures through the party polls that are slated for January 10, 2026.
“We will filed candidates everywhere as a party.”

Already, battle lines have been drawn in the populous Kilifi County as the incumbent and ODM governor Mung’aro braces himself to face off with the ruling party Kahindi, Jumwa and Nairobi based advocate George Kithi.
Omar’s declaration allays fears of zoning that has gripped supporters of UDA and Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties after the party backed ODM’s Harry Kombe instead of Stanley Kenga who joined DCP in the recently concluded Magarini by-election.
