Muslims Leaders Marked Eid-Ul-Fitr with Calls for Peace and Unity in Kenya

Muslim faithful in Mombasa County celebrated _Eid-Ul-Fitr_ with calls for unity, peace and security in the country.

The faithfuls, who turned out in their hundreds, gathered at Masjid Ummu-Kulthum and Ronald Ngala grounds held morning prayers respectively after the end of the Month of Ramadhan.

Speaking after Monday, March 31, 2025, Masjid Ummu Kulthum Imam, Sheikh Islam Amad Salim asked Muslims to help the less fortunate by donating foodstuffs and other needy items during the Eid celebrations.

“Our joy must be within the Islamic teachings. We, therefore, must ask our brothers and sisters as they mark the celebrations they must not exceed limits.We also ask them to help the less privileged and offer them any help necessary,” he said at a press briefing.

At the same mosque, Mombasa ODM political leaders Mohamed Khamis and a businessman Abbu Joho led a host of muslim faithfuls for the special prayers to mark end of fasting.

Khamis praised the government for maintaining security during the Month of Ramadhan and encouraged the agencies concerned to heighten their game to deal with escalating criminal activities.

The Muslims fraternity asked top political leaders to continue being united for the sake of peace in the country.

“We thank the government for maintaining peace and security during the month of Ramadhan.We therefore plead to the government to continue ensuring peace and security,” he said and exemplified the broad-based government for fostering unity among Kenyans.

Chief Kadhi Sheikh Athman Hussein led the prayers at the Ronald Ngala Primary School grounds where he urged citizenry to live in harmony and assist the poor of the poor in society.

“We urge Kenyans to continue coexisting in harmony because this is a very important day in our lives as Muslims. Let’s unite and help those who are needy,” he urged.

The cleric, flanked by Imams and political leaders from Mombasa, told Kenyans not to be divided by petty politics but instead unite for the betterment of the country. 

“Without any victimisation, we urge everyone to love his neighbors and share. We also pray God to lead out nation as we hear to elections so that we can continue being blessed with peace.”

Governor Abdulswamad Nassir called on his subjects to embrace unity irrespective of their religious beliefs, political affiliation, social status or tribal lining.

“We are calling for unity on this day in which we consider this day as one of the most important in our Islamic tradition. A day like this, we need to forgive each other and be like the one large family we are known to be.”

The central business district, especially Mwembe Tayari area burst into brisk business to cash in on roaring crowds scrambling for consumables that littered sections of the Kenyatta Avenue and Mackinnon Market connecting Digo Road.
