THE WHOLE-OF-SCHOOL APPROACH: Respite for Bahari Girls Success
By Prof Dr. Halimu Shauri
BOM Chairman
Yesterday, we hosted Owen Yaa Baya, Kilifi North MP and National Assembly deputy majority at Bahari Girls Secondary School.
This is not the first time we have hosted the legislator, but January 10, 2025 was special for him and us as Bahari Girls community.
It was special because we were celebrating our achievement as a school for making history since its inception in 1991.
More precisely, we have been working hard to break the ceiling in improving the school’s mean score and scoring a grade A plain.
Since 2019, when the board I am leading as chair took over, with a mean of five points, we have been planning and strategising on how to place the school at the national and global map of excellence.
We have been scoring A minuses for a while, but breaking A plain grade score has been a journey and a milestone to accomplish.
Congratulations to the Bahari community for that incredible achievement and milestone!
In the 2023 KCSE results, we managed to get nine (9) A minuses short by three in the previous year (2022) examination, but with a mean of seven points and an A minus of 79 points short of just a point to get an A plain.
This year’s results saw Grace Sidi break that ceiling by setting the record and history of giving Bahari Girls an A of 83 points, thus, making the school a true national of choice going forward.
I must attest that we made it because of the immense support we got from students, teachers, non-teaching staff, school management, board of management and the local community, and above all the local leadership with MP Owen not only supporting, but also challenging us to break the glass ceiling.
I remember him telling the girls that if they give him an A plain in the KCSE 2024 examination, then he will bring them a new Scania bus.
Among the many things he has done to support our vision as the school, his visit yesterday brought goodies to the girls of two bulls for school’s party celebration delivered by his entourage and a Scania bus within 90 days!
Message of support for the school and party from the Governor Gideon Mg’aro was also delivered by the MP and so is a message of congratulations from the President Dr William Samoei Ruto.
Finally, you can see Bahari is because we are. When you plan, strategize and implement with all stakeholders and the local leadership in tow, you have the buy-in, ownership, and excellent execution of your plan and strategy.
Thank you, all the stakeholders for being truly supportive to the Bahari Girls’ vision and mission and we have at last delivered as expected of us…
