Mudavadi’s ANC Delegates Vote for Merger with UDP

The Amani National Congress Party has unanimously voted to merge with the United Democratic Party in a bid to strengthen the Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s political position ahead of 2027 General election.
Secretary general Omboko Milemba, speaking during the party top brass delegates at Mokowe in Lamu County, disclosed that the decision to merge with UDA was arrived at following a meeting of 160 party delegates and elected leaders.
Those present at the meeting was former party leader and Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Musalia Mudavadi
He further stated that the move will aid in strengthening the KKA’s position come the next general election as political realignments seems to be trade in the offing.
A senior official at the party said that all party organs have adopted the merger process and negotiations were underway to deliberate the way forward as the party seeks to voluntarily merge with ruling party.
“The decision was arrived at unanimously, with all leaders keen on seeing the merger take place as soon as possible,” the official added.
The official disclised that plans were already underway to put in place an advisory committee that would aid in steering the merger process.

“It helps that the ANC and the UDA party have similar manifestos that will further aid in realising KK’s development agenda for Kenya,” said Dr Beatrice Adagala ANC deputy party leader.
She said that the merger would aid KK negotiate with like-minded parties to win more seats at the county and national level in the forthcoming general election.
The party leader and Lamu governor Issa Timamy expressed the same sentiments saying he would be part and parcel of the select committee that would steer the merger process ‘very soon’.

However, he remained non-committal over the date in which the merger would take place.
West Kabras of Kakamega County MCA David Nagwa said that the merger process was fully supported by the elected leaders whose task would be to voice the decision at the grassroots level.
“All elected leaders are in support of the merger which will aid in strengthening our position within Kenya Kwanza as political realignments take place,” he said.
In his remarks, the party national chair Vincent Lunani commended the delegates and party officials for voting for the merger of ANC and UDA saying this would further the party’s political position at the national level.
