Lamu, Kenya August 5, 2025: In a landmark ruling delivered today at the Lamu Law Court a convict Donald Mwendwa alias “Password” has been found guilt for publishing false information contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.
The court found him guilty of intentionally disseminating false and defamatory content targeting the family of a senior public servant, causing panic, public shame, and reputational harm over an extended period.
The accused has been remanded at Hindi GK Prison awaiting formal sentencing on 12th August 2025.
The case, filed in 2023 by Shee Kupi Shee, director for disaster management and peace building in the County, followed relentless cyber-attacks and insults directed at him, his parents and family.

Despite immense pressure, political intimidation, and threats, Shee remained resolute in pursuing justice—not just for himself, but for many members of the Lamu community who have silently suffered similar abuse online.
“This judgment is not only a personal victory but a reflection of our community’s desire for dignity and decency in public discourse,” he said.
Let it be known that justice can prevail over fear, threats, and cyberbullying. Today, we send a strong message: character assassination and digital violence have no place in a peaceful, democratic society.”
The ruling has been welcomed by residents of Lamu many of whom have long endured online insults, misinformation, and intimidation.
The application of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act in this case sets a precedent and serves as a deterrent to future digital offenders.
Shee also thanked the judiciary, the police, and all individuals who stood by the truth and supported the pursuit of justice through lawful means.

He urged all public servants, youth, and community members to continue upholding peace and integrity both online and offline.
“This moment restores hope and renews our collective responsibility in building a society grounded in respect, rule of law, and peaceful coexistence.”
