Deputy President Kindiki is Here to Stay, UDA Secretary General Affirms

The battle for President William Ruto’s running mate for next year’s general election heats up as the ruling party secretary general Hassan Omar draws the line against its broad-based partner ODM.
Throwing his weight behind his Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, the SG declared his position untouchable heading toward the 2027 polls.
According to him Kindiki is the favourite to deputise President William Ruto dismissing undertones from BBG government allies who have reportedly set the DP post as their irreducible minimum.
“Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is two-term and there to stay,” he declared.
The SG who spoke during a grassroots meeting with aspirants at the Hustler Centre headquarters in Nyali subcounty on Monday, August 31, 2026 was categorical on the contentious issue that threatens the fragile partnership.
Flanked by a section of Mombasa party aspirants, the SG said the Coast region would overwhelmingly re-elect President Ruto in 2027 because of his development record.
He said Ruto holds the Coast dear due to its human resource and social economic potential.
“Watu wa Pwani ni wavuvi na sio wavivu, ndio maana William Ruto kanipa nafasi ya SG na sio wengine, kwa sababu ya uwezo wangu.”
Omar, who is eyeing the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, said Ruto and Kindiki would form the next government and continue with their transformational agenda.
The remarks come amid growing whispers within the broad-based arrangement that ODM should be given the Deputy President slot as part of the 2027 power-sharing deal.
