In a show of political unity, Coast region top leaders affiliated to the broadbased government vowed to support President William Samoei Ruto’s next year’s re-election.

played out at the Coast on Friday, as top leaders from the coast region vowed to rally behind President William Ruto’s administration and back his re-election in 2027.

Led by Senate speaker Amazon Jefwa Kingi, mining cabinet secretary Hassan Ali Joho, and sports Salim Mvurya, said the region was no longer an opposition zone as it was receiving development after years of political neglect by previous administrations.

The leaders were at Mere area of Malindi Constituency in Kilifi County on Friday, July 3, 2026 to declare their unwavering backing for Ruto’s second presidential term.

They unanimously declared that the Coast was now firmly behind the Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaker Kingi, who led the chorus, said the President has walked the talk for the region.

“For many years, the region was used during campaigns and then forgotten after elections. That story has changed,” he said.

Joho said. “Since President Ruto came to office, we have seen real projects, real jobs, and real solutions. It is time for all Coast leaders to put our weight behind his second term.”

He cited increased investment at ports, mining reforms, and the blue economy as evidence that the government was listening to the coastal people.

Governor Mung’aro said the land ownership issue had been the biggest burden for region’s families.

He noted that thousands of residents who lived for generations without legal documents are now receiving title deeds under Ruto’s government.

“Land at the Coast has been a source of conflict, poverty, and hopelessness. Today, mothers and fathers are getting title deeds for land they have occupied for 40-50 years. That is dignity restored.”

On employment, CS Mvurya said the government has prioritized youth through jobs at the ports, tourism revival, sports, and creative industries.

“We cannot talk about development without talking about our youth. That is why we are here,” he added.

The speaker said divisions among coastal leaders had cost the region for decades.

He urged all elected leaders to work together under Ruto to secure more resources for roads, hospitals, and water projects.

Political pundits and commentators say the joint declaration is significant because it brings together leaders who were once on opposing sides of the regional politics.

Their alignment with Ruto is seen as a strategic move to ensure the region is not left out of national power and resources in the next government.

Residents who attended the meeting welcomed the unity saying they want to see more projects, not just political speeches.

Many cited the ongoing issuance of title deeds in Kilifi, Kwale, and Tana River as proof that change is happening on the ground.
