This arrangement ensures continuity of leadership and strengthens the Church’s pastoral mission along the Kenyan Coast.

Born in 1961, Archbishop-designate Kimengich was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Nakuru on September 14, 1986.

Over the years, he has served in parish ministry, priestly formation, seminary leadership, and administrative roles.

His experience includes serving as Rector of St. Joseph’s Junior Seminary, Molo, Vicar General of the Diocese of Nakuru, and Rector of St. Matthias Mulumba Major Seminary, Tindinyo.

He has also contributed to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), offering canonical and legal expertise, particularly in strengthening ecclesiastical tribunals and promoting sound Church governance.

He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Lodwar and Titular Bishop of Tanaramusa on March 20, 2010 and received episcopal ordination on May 22, 2010.

Pope Benedict XVI later appointed him Bishop of Lodwar on March 5, 2011, and he was installed on March 30, 2011.

In November 2019, he was transferred to the Diocese of Eldoret, where he shepherded the faithful with an emphasis on evangelisation, pastoral accompaniment, and prudent administration.

Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde, appointed to Mombasa by Pope Francis on December 9, 2014 and installed on February 21, 2015, succeeded the late Archbishop Boniface Lele.

During his tenure, Archbishop Kivuva has left a strong pastoral footprint along the Coast, launching new parishes in Kilifi, Kwale, and Taita Taveta counties, and initiating a variety of humanitarian programs aimed at supporting vulnerable communities.

Pope Leo XIV,

In preparation for his retirement on February 10, 2027, Archbishop Kivuva has, in line with canonical provisions, requested that an adjudicator be assigned to assist him during the transitional year, ensuring smooth governance of the archdiocese and continuity in pastoral care.

Catholic faithful have warmly embraced the presence of two bishops in the archdiocese, seeing it as an opportunity for mentorship, continuity, and strengthened pastoral care.
