Residents of three villages namely Kararachi, Kisiki and Chambuu of Hawewanje area across River Galana opposite Chakama trading center of Kisiki Sublocation in Kilifi County are fleeing for fear of inter-community violence triggered by invasion of pastoralists seeking pasture for their livestock.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that a violent attack of a local villager by a suspected pastoralist on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 sparked the unprecedented exodus for safety.
According to sources violence break out after a pastoralist with herds of cattle refused to move his herd from Chambuu village across the river near Chakama.

Without provocation, the pastoralist violently attacked the local resident who ran for dear life, thus, causing the commotion there.
This escalation led to stabbings of three local men and torching of several Orma shelters that are normally thatched with grass and other vegetation materials.
The injured trio – one an elderly man and child – and several herders are undergoing treatment and nursing injuries after revengeful attacks and counter-attacks.

According to the local chief few people have camped at Hawewanje Primary School and refused his call to return to their homes for fear of attack at night.
Security meeting is scheduled on Thursday, February 12, 2026 to calm the tension and reconciling the herders and locals to stamp out retaliatory attacks between the warring sides.
