Mokowe, Lamu County: Lamu County has reaffirmed its strong commitment to peace, security, and community resilience following a three-day County Action Plan (CAP) review and remodelling workshop convened by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) from 3rd to 5th February 2026 in Mokowe.

The workshop was held as part of the national review process to align County Action Plans with the National Strategy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (NSPCVE) 2025–2030.

It brought together representatives from the National Government, County Government, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and other key Community stakeholders, creating a collaborative platform to strengthen Lamu’s response to evolving extremist threats.

Over the three days, participants engaged in structured discussions and thematic focus group sessions, where they critically analysed the existing CAP and generated strategic inputs aimed at expanding its scope.

These contributions were designed to ensure that the newly remodelled CAP remains responsive, inclusive, and adaptive to emerging and shifting terror threats.

The County Government of Lamu, through the Department of Public Service Management, actively participated in the workshop. The Governor was represented by Ms. Khadija Fumo, Chief Officer – Public Service Management, who delivered key remarks on behalf of the County leadership.

In her address, Ms Khadija emphasized the importance of strong, healthy collaboration between government institutions, communities, and non-state actors in combating violent extremism.

She congratulated the newly elected pillar leads who will spearhead the implementation of the remodelled CAP and underscored the County Government’s unwavering commitment to providing a supportive and facilitative environment for effective implementation.

“Lamu County remains committed to ensuring safety and security through community-led initiatives. Sustainable peace can only be achieved when communities are empowered and actively involved in shaping solutions,” she noted.

While acknowledging the significant milestones already achieved by Lamu County in countering violent extremism, stakeholders agreed that the revised CAP is timely and necessary to deter new and emerging threats, especially as extremist groups continue to evolve their tactics.

The County Government of Lamu looks forward to continued collaboration with the National Government, NCTC, development partners, civil society, and local communities in implementing the newly remodelled CAP and safeguarding the county’s peace, stability, and development.
