Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has appointed Maurice Ogeta as advisor on security affairs citing his extensive experience and long service in high-level security operations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor said the appointment was made following the establishment of the position by the Mombasa County Public Service Board and in line with the law.

“This appointment is informed by his many years of experience and deep institutional knowledge built at local, regional and global levels, including his service to our party leadership.”

Ogeta is widely known for having served as a close security aide and bodyguard to veteran opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga for many years.

Through that role, he gained exposure to high-risk security environments, coordination with national and international security agencies, and the protection of high-profile leaders during major political events both within and outside the country.

County officials say his background is expected to strengthen advisory support on security policy, risk assessment and inter-agency collaboration in Mombasa.

At the same time, Governor Nassir appointed Ken Ambani as advisor on creative arts, a move aimed at revitalising the county’s cultural and creative economy.

“I have also appointed Ken Ambani as my advisor on creative arts. His wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience in the sector will be instrumental as we work to revive and grow the creative industry in Mombasa for the benefit of our artists, youth and the wider economy,” he said.

Ambani is a well-known figure in the creative and cultural space with years of involvement in the promotion of music, visual arts and youth-led creative initiatives.

He has previously worked with artists and community groups, advocating for policies that recognise creative arts as both a cultural asset and a source of employment.

His appointment is expected to help the county develop supportive frameworks for artists, expand opportunities for young creatives and position Mombasa as a regional hub for arts and culture.

The two appointments underscore governor’s effort to strengthen his executive advisory team by drawing on experience from both the security and creative sectors as his administration pursues economic growth and social development in the coastal county.
