The Independent electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC has so far cleared ten candidates for the Magarini By- elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.

Jacob Themo Kwicha who had earlier failed to be cleared is among the ten candidates who will face it off alongside other nine candidates in the Magarini by-elections after Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission cleared him.

The commission had earlier declined to clear the aspirant after he failed to meet the required documents for anyone vying for a parliamentary seat.

Kwicha of the Federal Party of Kenya is said to have presented requirements meant for the position of a member of County Assembly and not of those of an MP.

However, the candidate was cleared at the eleventh hour after he presented the standard requirements necessary for the by-elections.

Joseph Mwafondo, the IEBC officer overseeing the Magarini by-election, said apart from Kwicha’s issue, the exercise went on smoothly as planned.

On Wednesday October 08, seven candidates were cleared ready for the race while three were cleared on Thursday 09.

ODM candidate Harrison Garama Kombe who wants to reclaim his seat after his election was nullified by the courts was first to be cleared on Thursday morning.

However, his nomination was put into question due to issues concerning his first and second seconders.

Apparently, his first seconder, wife, is a registered member of UDA and not ODM while his second sponsor is not registered with any political party.

The commission however gave the aspirant time to correct the anomalies by sourcing two other new guarantors who were dully registered members of his party, ODM. Luckly, he managed to salvage his case.

On Wednesday Hammadi Chadi Karisa faced the commission’s officials first eyeing the seat through Roots Party ticket led by former presidential aspirant George Wajackoyah.

Speaking after receiving his certificate, Chadi called on his supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns without provocation or insults towards his competitors.

The second candidate to receive the certificate was Stanley Kenga of the DCP party led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kenga was given the ticket after Furaha Chengo Ngumbao alias Kalama wehu jumped ship and sought refuge in the DNA party.

The party came into being after it successful changed its name from Umoja Summit Party of Kenya (USPK) to DNA. Its deputy party leader Naomi Cidi expressed confidence of clinching the seat.

“We shall now embark on a series of campaigns as well as door to door meetings. I can assure Ngumbao will carry the day with a landslide margin,” she told journalists after the clearance of her Party candidate.

Ngumbao, a key ally of the UDA party, left after disagreeing with President William Ruto’s decision not to field a candidate in Magarini due to a broad-based government deal between Kenya Kwanza and ODM.

Ngumbao had also filed a court case against Harrison Kombe that culminated in the nullification of his victory in May last year.

Other candidates cleared include Emmanuel Kalama of The Alliance Party, John Sulubu Masha of the Kenya Social Congress and Samuel Nzai of Wiper.

The IEBC subcounty boss assured candidates of free and fair elections, but asked all candidates to peacefully conduct their campaigns.
