SS ASSAD Football Club, a well-known team based in Kwale County, has received a major financial boost aimed at reviving its performance and infrastructure.

Mining cabinet secretary Hassan Ali Joho recently awarded the club Ksh500,000 to support its growth and return it to competitive standards so as to capture its past glory.

The club received the monies from Joho’s representative Ali Masemo who said the government was committed to promoting sports at the grassroots levels.

According to him the financial support is part of a broader effort to ensure SS ASSAD meets the standards required to be recognised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), thus, enabling the club to eventually participate in the prestigious CAF Champions League.

SS ASSAD, which once enjoyed a strong run in Kenya’s lower football leagues has recently faced setbacks; largely due to financial constraints.

This, among other logistical challenges, has threatened the club’s competitiveness in football games and also stalled plans to upgrade its facilities. Despite this, the club continues to shine in talent development.

Said Ali Majani, one of the club’s senior officials, expressed pride of SS ASSAD’s nutured players saying some of them have been called to the national team, Harambee Stars.

“Our journey hasn’t been easy, but we are proud that our players have been recognized at the regional and national level such as Beja Nyamawi who once played for Bandari FC before joining Harambee Stars. This funding gives us hope and we believe it’s the beginning of a new chapter,” he said.

SS Assad captain Ali Juma expressed his sincere gratitude to Joho and pleading for continued support and assistance to get more sponsors for the team to enable it gain its past glory and achieve its dreams.

About Club

SS ASSAD (South Side Academy Sports and Development) is a football club based in Kwale County and founded on a mission to identify, nurture, and promote young football talent in the coastal region of Kenya.

Over the years, the team has built a reputation for producing disciplined, skillful players; many of who have been scouted for national or regional competitions.

As the club regroups with new backing and a clear goal to rise in Kenyan and African football, fans in the county and beyond will be watching closely how the club charts its path forward.

Fans, within and across borders, will be watching and following closely its progress to see what comes out of the team from Joho’s financial support.

But one thing is certain, SS ASSAD is not yet done when it comes to football excellency.
