They should work with Kenya Maritime Authority and other maritime bodies to ensure that Kenyan seafarers enjoy decent working conditions, fair pay, and access to necessary services like medical care and insurance.

They should advocate for continuous professional development for seafarers, focusing on improving skill sets and ensuring that Kenyan seafarers remain competitive in the global maritime labor market.

They should collaborate with international maritime bodies to ensure that Kenyan seafarers are adequately protected, especially in conflict zones or during piracy threats.

They should regularly update training curricula to incorporate emerging trends in the maritime industry, including green shipping technologies, automation, and digitalization.

The stakeholders should foster closer ties between MET institutions and the maritime industry to ensure that training programs are aligned with industry needs.

They should increase training facilities and programs to accommodate the growing demand for skilled maritime personnel.

They should launch public awareness campaigns to inform the general public about the significance of the maritime sector and the importance of sustainable maritime practices.

The stakeholders should inspire young people to pursue careers in the maritime industry by providing scholarships, internships, and career guidance related to shipping and port operations.

They should encourage communities living along coastal areas to participate in marine conservation efforts and reduce pollution, aligning with KMA’s goal of a clean marine environment.

They should establish a framework to track progress against the strategic goals. Regular reviews and transparent reporting mechanisms will help adjust strategies as needed.

They should invest in research on emerging maritime trends and technologies and develop a comprehensive maritime research agenda to inform decision-making.

They should foster deeper collaboration between local and international stakeholders to harmonize Kenya’s maritime policies with global standards and best practices.

The successful implementation of KMA’s strategic goals depends on effective collaboration, stakeholder buy-in, and continuous investment in human capital, infrastructure, and technology.

With these recommendations in place, Kenya can achieve its vision of becoming a globally competitive maritime hub while enhancing the safety, sustainability, and economic contribution of its maritime sector.
