World Vision Kenya’s Lamu area programme today (July 15, 2026) convened the Quarter three of Sustainability and Closure Committee Reflection Meeting at the Pwani Complex Facility in Hindi that brought together members of the committee established by World Vision to oversee the sustainability and transition of development initiatives in Lamu County.

The meeting reviewed progress made during the third quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year, assessed the implementation of sustainability strategies, and identified practical actions required to address the remaining gaps before project closure.

The forum was attended by representatives from the County Government of Lamu, National Government representatives, World Vision Lamu Area, NDMA, community institutions, faith based and other partner organizations serving as members of committee.

Officially opening the meeting, the disaster risk management and peace building director Shee Kupi Shee emphasized that sustainability must remain the foundation of all development interventions.

“The success of any development programme is not measured by the number of projects completed, but by the ability of communities to sustain the benefits long after donor support has ended.

Sustainability requires strong partnerships, community ownership, accountability, and continued collaboration among all stakeholders,” he said.

During the deliberations, committee members reviewed achievements made across education, child protection, health, agriculture, livelihoods, disaster risk management, water governance, and community empowerment.

They also examined the remaining sustainability gaps and shared practical recommendations on how government departments, communities, and development partners can complement one another to safeguard the gains already realized.

The committee commended World Vision for its continued investment in strengthening local systems and appreciated the contribution of the county and national government apart from other partners in supporting sustainable development initiatives across the Lamu Area Programme.

Speaking during the meeting, Charles Muthoka, World Vision programme officer, underscored the importance of sustaining the momentum beyond the project period.

“We need to strengthen our sustainability strategies today if we are to secure a better future for our children, families, and communities.

Sustainable development depends on strong local institutions, community ownership, and continued collaboration among all partners,” he said.

The meeting resolved to undertake a joint assessment of World Vision-initiated projects across the Lamu Area Programme to evaluate their long-term sustainability and identify practical measures that will ensure communities continue benefiting from the investments after project closure.

The Sustainability and Closure Committee reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the county government, national government, communities, and development partners to build resilient institutions capable of sustaining development gains and improving the lives of the people of Lamu for years to come.
