Government Delivers Ksh 20m Reward to Harambee Starlets and Junior Starlets

The Harambee Starlets’ morale received a major boost after the players received cash rewards from President William Ruto on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 during the team’s visit at State House, Nairobi.
The money, delivered on July 15, 2026 came as the team departs Kenya to start their Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in Morocco.
State Department for Sports principal secretary (PS) Elijah Mwangi visited the team on Wednesday afternoon (July 15) to bid them farewell and deliver the presidential pledge as part of incentivising the team.
Speaking during the visit, the PS noted that the Head of State was keen on supporting Harambee Starlets and ensure they staged a terrific campaign against the Africa’s top teams in Morocco.
He pointed out that the government was fully committed to supporting the development and growth of women football as part of the vision to grow talents among the young girls in Kenya.

“The President made a promise to you of incentivising you with Ksh20 million. Today, I am here to deliver that promise to you and wish the team a successful campaign,” he said.
During their visit to the State House on Tuesday, President William Ruto pledged to support Harambee Starlets and Junior Starlets with cash support of Ksh20 million.
The Starlets would receive Ksh10 million while Junior Starlets would receive the remaining amount.
While hailing the President for fulfilling his promise to the team, Harambee Starlets captain Mwanahalima Adam said the team was ready to take on other teams from across the continent.
She added that Starlets were going to keep the promise they made to the Head of State of staging a performance that would see them make history and bring pride and glory to the nation.

“We are happy and thankful that the President has kept his word. The remaining part is now for us to go and showcase the kind of game we have,” she said.
