Lamu County’s very own Saddam Yusuf Mohamed made waves over the weekend after clinching three gold medals at the National Deaf Swimming Championship held in Nairobi.

The event, which served as a qualifier for the upcoming Deaf Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, brought together the best deaf swimmers from across the country, with Saddam emerging as one of Kenya’s brightest prospects.

Saddam, a Coxswain attached to the Department of Public Service Management (PSM) under the Office of the Governor, stunned spectators and competitors alike with his commanding performances in three swimming categories, earning himself a well-deserved place on Team Kenya’s roster for the Deaf Olympics next month.

His triumph has drawn widespread praise, particularly from his colleagues in Lamu County, who have celebrated not only his personal accomplishment but also the spirit of determination and excellence it represents.

“We celebrate Mr. Saddam as a true symbol of resilience and determination,” said Ms. Khadija Fumo Khalifa, Chief Officer – Public Service Management.

He added “His success demonstrates the spirit of inclusivity that we uphold as a county. The Department of PSM is committed to identifying and nurturing talent among our officers, and Saddam’s journey to the global stage is proof that with support, our people can achieve greatness.”

The National Deaf Swimming Championship featured a strong field of competitors, but Saddam’s composure, athleticism, and relentless drive set him apart. With every stroke, he powered through the water with purpose, earning not just medals, but the admiration of his peers and the pride of an entire county.

“I warmly welcome Saddam into the club of global winners,” added Shee Kupi Shee, Director of Disaster Management and Peace Building under the Department of PSM.

“As someone who has proudly flown the PSM flag beyond Kenya before, I am honored to see another officer from our department reach the world stage,”he added.

Saddam’s achievement reflects not only personal triumph but also the strength and vision of our department in empowering our officers to excel globally.”

The Office of the Governor, through the Department of PSM, continues to champion inclusivity and equal opportunities, creating platforms that allow talent to thrive across a range of disciplines.

Saddam’s story is the latest chapter in that mission—a testament to what can be achieved with unwavering dedication and institutional support.

As he prepares to represent Kenya in Tokyo, Saddam carries with him not only the hopes of Lamu County but also the aspirations of a nation inspired by his journey.

With three gold medals already around his neck and a shot at Olympic glory ahead, Saddam Yusuf Mohamed has firmly etched his name into Kenya’s sporting history.
