Legislator’s Mother to be Laid to Rest Over Easter Holiday

Kilifi North MP Owen Baya’s mother, Dorothy Baya Mweri, who passed on a few days ago will now be buried at her home in Dabaso Watamu on Monday 06, March 2026.
The legislator shared a heartfelt message on his Facebook page where he announced the passing of his mother on behalf of the family expressing faith and gratitude to God while mourning the matriarch.
Dorothy Baya who is also the mother of Anglican of Kenya ACK Mombasa diocese Bishop Alphonce Mwaro Baya died on March 30, 2026.at at Kilifi County Referral Hospital
“On behalf of myself and my wife Aisha and the family, I announce the sad news of passing on of our mother Dorothy Baya Mweri. May God rest her soul in eternal peace.”

The deceased passed on while undergoing treatment at hospital.
Various leaders across the Coast region have rendered their condolences to the legislator and his family.
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro described the late Dorothy as a loving and graceful figure whose legacy would live on.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dorothy Baya, her life was marked by grace and warmth for her family, her impact will not be forgotten,” he wrote on his facebook page.
Kilifi’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party gubernatorial hopeful Aisha Jumwa described the late as a matriarch of the family and acknowledging the profound loss suffered by the lawmake.
“Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mother, its a sad moment indeed, may God rest her soul in eternal life,” she said.

Rabia MP Kenga Mupe and his Malindi counterpart Amina Mnyazi termed the loss as deeply painful saying that losing a mother was never easy.
They extend their heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
