The call for Mijikenda unity is steadily gathering momentum as leaders across Kilifi and Kwale counties rally behind a renewed, people-driven process anchored on culture, heritage and collective welfare.
Prominent personalities eminent professionals, distinguished traditional leaders, seasoned religious leaders, women of substance and uprising youths from the Mijikenda community have united behind the push for cohesion among the nine subtribes.
An organising committee representing the midzchenda proper toured Kaloleni Vishakani village of Kaloleni constituency in Kilifi County to assess the venue of a major unity meeting slated for the Boxing Day, December 26, 2025.
The area bears deep historical significance, serving as the final resting place of the KADU stalwart the late Ronald Gideon Ngala, the founding father of Majimboism and a revered nationalist in pre-and-post independence politics.

During the visit, the delegation inspected the proposed meeting grounds and paid tribute at Ngala’s mausoleum — an exercise conducted under the blessings of one of his sons, Paul Kadenge Ngala.
Community elders say the unity drive is non-political, with its focus mainly placed on the socio-economic front and empowerment.
Each Mijikenda subtribe – duruma, digo, giriama, chonyi, rabai, jibana, ribe, kambe and kauma – is represented in the organising committee through its council chairman; a move leaders say reinforces inclusivity, consensus and ownership.
The choice of venue also honours Ronald Ngala’s legacy as an educator, champion of independence and proponent of unity, fighter for minority rights and equitable development at the Coast region and beyond.

More than five thousand people are expected to attend the December _dhome_ in traditional regalia to perform cultural norms/rituals, songs and dances to colour the day.
According to organisers the gathering is an open invitation to all Midzichenda people to meet and chart their way forward in a changing political dynamics in the country as it hurtles to 2027!
