Mombasa Huduma Centre branch staff’s faces broke into smiles as they received accolades for a work well done as the year comes to a close.
The centre manager Harrison Yogo, who rewarded his staff, said Mombasa was one of the busiest branch in the country, thus, rewarding his staff was geared towards boosting their morale and enhancing productivity at the high-volume service hub.
Yogo announced Onesmus Makalo, an officer of National Treasury stationed at the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) desk, as the employee-of-the-year.
“This has been my biggest surprise this evening being named as the employee of the Year I must admit it’s really amazing,” Makalo said. “I like working hard, and my work is at my heart. I work from the heart.”
He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for nominating him against 131 employees working at the centre. He attributed his success to teamwork and dedication.
“Mombasa Huduma Centre is currently the best Huduma Centre in Kenya, as ranked by professionals. This did not happen by chance; it is because of what we do,” he said.

The winner explained that he enjoys working with teams and supporting colleagues who may be struggling.
“Whenever I see a team member falling behind, I go back, pick them up and we move forward together. I believe that effort has been recognised today.”
The officer encouraged young public servants to remain committed to their duties. “It is not about what you get; think about what you give, and other things will come automatically.”
The Best Huduma Ambassador of the Year award was scooped by Nawwar Hammad, the regional officer for the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
She attributed the recognition to extensive outreach programmes across Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu and Taita Taveta counties.
Hammad said the initiatives include school visits for career talks, training teachers, and engaging principals and parents on post-Form Four opportunities and access to government scholarships through KUCCPS.
The manager was crowned for his good leadership, being a national hero in the statesmanship category as recognised in this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui County.
Yogo said the centre is one of the busiest in the country, second only to GPO Nairobi, serving about 2,400 customers daily. “I have a team of 133 staff who ensure services are delivered efficiently, accessible and transparently.”
Staff recognition ceremony is part of what he described as public service motivation appreciating staff for a work well done.

“Mombasa centre opens its doors to the public at 7am to 7pm with no break nor lunch hours. acknowledging the hard work by these staff is really commendable,” Yogo said.
According to him Identity card services remain the business of the day with a daily target of 400 citizens attributing it to the move by the President William Ruto to waive away charges on ID cards issuance.
He appreciated the efforts by partners such as Lulu ya Jamii alongside others for complementing their services.
