Thousands of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party delegates are trooping to Mombasa for the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations with President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta among the invited guests.
Preparations were completed on Thursday evening for the much-anticipated ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa.
The party officials conducted last minute inspection tour at Mama Ngina Waterfront venue to assess the readiness, confirming completion of the set up ahead of the big rally and music concert on Saturday.
Mombasa Governor and party deputy leader ODM Abdulswamad Nassir led the inspection and assured the public that all preparations, including security arrangements were complete.
“The celebration will begin on Friday at Fort Jesus where the ODM Women’s League and youth groups will entertain the public.
Later in the evening, other events will continue at Mapembeni,” the governor said.
He added that over 100,000 delegates are expected to attend the celebrations, including guests from Kwale, Lamu, and Mombasa counties.
The governor noted that the event would also serve as a tribute to the late Raila Amollo Odinga, the former ODM leader in recognition of his lifelong commitment to democracy, justice, and social equality.

“Every day as party members, we remember Baba for the democracy, freedom, and constitutional reforms he fought for. This celebration is one way of honouring his legacy.”
He further pointed out that the anniversary has already boosted the local economy with businesses, hotels, and transport services in Mombasa experiencing increased activity.
“Hotels are receiving guests in large numbers, accommodation facilities are busy, and transportation has improved. The economic benefits of ODM @20 are already being felt,” he added.
Mombasa County woman representative ZamZam Mohamed also expressed readiness for the event saying that women would play a key role in the celebrations with the support of Governor Nassir.
“We, as women, are ready for the celebration. We invite everyone to come and witness the beauty, creativity, and energy of ODM women as they entertain and share their agendas,” she said.
ODM executive director Oduor Ong’wen said that delegates from across the country are expected to attend the celebrations which will be both joyful and reflective as the party continues to mourn its late leader.
“We are proud to mark 20 years of ODM’s existence, though we are also saddened that this milestone comes without our founding leader, Raila Amollo Odinga,” he said.
He emphasized that the party was focused on renewing its spirit and unity in preparation for the next general elections.
“ODM was founded to take power and serve the people. As we celebrate 20 years, we are also renewing our strength to ensure ODM remains a powerful force for the next two decades.”
Mombasa ODM chairman Mohamed Hamisi warmly welcomed all Kenyans to the celebration and assured them of their safety and comfort during the event.

“I welcome everyone to Mombasa for this historic celebration. Security and accommodation have been well taken care of. Feel at home and enjoy the festivities,” he said.
The ODM @20 celebrations promise to be colorful, unifying, and symbolic as the party marks two decades of shaping Kenya’s political and democratic landscape.
