The Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) joins the global community in commemorating the

Global Surveyors Day, an important annual event dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the

indispensable role of surveyors in shaping societies, economies, and sustainable development

worldwide.

Established in the year 2018, the Global Surveyors Day provides an opportunity to highlight the

critical contributions of surveyors in land management, property management, infrastructure

development, real estate development, urban planning, environmental conservation, and

technological advancement.

Surveyors form the backbone of development by providing accurate

data, defining boundaries, supporting land governance, valuation, property management, estate

agency as well as enabling informed decision-making across different sectors.

In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the surveying profession continues to evolve rapidly.

Modern surveyors are at the forefront of integrating, in part, advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Remote Sensing, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), Mass Appraisal Systems and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to enhance precision, efficiency, and sustainability.

These innovations are vital in addressing contemporary global challenges, including climate change, rapidly expanding urbanization, land disputes, and infrastructure expansion for the benefit of the citizen.

Surveyors are therefore not only technical experts but also strategic enablers of

sustainable development and economic transformation of the Nation.

In Kenya, surveyors continue to play a pivotal role in national development across public, private,

and development sectors. Their contributions are evident in:

a) Land adjudication and titling processes that enhance tenure security;

b) Infrastructure development including roads, railways, airports, housing, and energy

projects;

c) Valuation, Property Management and Estate Agency;

d) Urban planning and smart city development

e) Environmental management and natural resource mapping;

f) Support for investment through accurate land and property data; and

g) Agriculture and rural development among others.

Through these contributions, surveyors significantly support the realization of national priorities such as the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), Vision 2030, regional policy

blueprints such as the 7th East African Community (EAC) Development Strategy (2026–2031) and

Africa Union Agenda 2063 of the Africa We Want. Further globally to the United Nations 2030 agenda on Sustainable Development Goals.

A Call to Action

The Institution of Surveyors of Kenya calls upon all stakeholders, including government agencies,

private sector players, academic institutions, and the public, to recognize and support the surveying profession in Kenya.

Strengthening the role of surveyors is essential for achieving equitable land management, sustainable urbanization, and inclusive economic growth and development in Kenya.

We further urge young people to explore opportunities within the surveying profession, which offers diverse career pathways in land management, Valuation, Property Management, Geospatial Science, Infrastructure Development, Building Survey, Estate Agency and other emerging

technologies.

As we celebrate, I encourage all surveyors to stay guided by the core pillars of our profession. We most profoundly need to strengthen partnerships and collaboration across the various disciplines to deliver sustainable solutions to emerging challenges of the contemporary world.

Our dedication

to ethics and professionalism must remain firm as they strengthen our critical role in nation

building.

Importantly, we call upon all our fellow citizen to appreciate and recognize risks surveyors face in the frontline of their duty. While at the same time, we urge the practitioners to prioritize safety, health and security in their line of duty.

In Conclusion: As we celebrate Global Surveyors Day 2026, we reaffirm our commitment to professionalism,

innovation, integrity, and service to the nation.

Surveyors remain central to building resilient

communities, supporting development, and shaping a sustainable future for Kenya and the World.

Our sincere gratitude to all our stakeholders and partners for their unwavering support in the last year.
