Mogo, East Africa’s leading asset financier, has joined forces with the police and boda boda riders in Kilifi County to address rising teenage pregnancies and drug abuse among young people.
Using football as a tool for social change the collaboration was marked with a friendly football match at the Alaska grounds in Malindi featuring teams from the Malindi Umbrella of Motorcycle Riders (Maumori) and the Malindi Police Football Club.
Recent findings from the Kenya demographic and health survey (KDHS) indicate that 15% of girls aged 15–19 in Kenya have been pregnant with Kilifi County among the most affected regions.
A United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) report has further linked boda boda riders to rising teenage pregnancies, particularly in rural areas.
Government data from the Ministry of Health (2022–2025) also reveals that one in every ten youths aged 15–24 uses at least one drug or substance of abuse with the Coast region among the hardest hit.
“We believe in building strong community ties through sports. Our partnership with Maumori promotes positive values, supports the girl child, and encourages cooperation between the police and the community,” said Jonathan Bogonko, Mogo Kenya product marketing manager.

Since 2023, Mogo has partnered with Maumori network of more than 1,500 boda boda riders to promote road safety, fight drug abuse, and support girls’ education.
The group is also known for donating sanitary pads to schoolgirls and encouraging boys to protect their sisters.
As part of its ongoing sponsorship, Mogo has equipped Maumori, which competes in the FKF Malindi Subcounty League, with balls, nets, and jerseys to strengthen the team’s performance during league matches.
At the event, Mogo and its partners also provided free servicing for motorcycles and tuk-tuks, underscoring their commitment to supporting the community’s livelihood.
On the pitch, the Malindi Police Football Club defeated Maumori FC 8–2 in an action-packed match.
Four police players found the net with Omar Kihara leding with four goals, Michael Joseph added two, while Kelvin Amani and Andrew Karisa each scored once.
For Maumori, Baraka Kahindi struck twice once in the 35th minute and again in the 67th earning the team applause for a determined and spirited performance.
