Mombasa County MP Zamzam Mohamed has called on President William Ruto to ensure education was well-funded for equality and equity to country’s demographic population.

If not, the fears of the woman representative is that the education sector will end up being the preserve of a few enabled people in Kenya.

MP Zamzam, speaking at a Kipsings community forum in Changamwe, urged the President to consider shelving or balancing expenditure on other flagship projects such as the affordable housing program in favour of enhancing the education sector.

“We urge the President to ensure that even as he delivers affordable housing, education funding does not deteriorate. It should be improved so our children can get the best education.”

The MP’s remarks were echoed by President Ruto’s political advisor Karisa Nzai who was the guest of honor at the forum.

The advisor emphasised the need for national unity and encouraged citizens to support the government’s development agenda.

“We ask people to help the President and give him the opportunity to deliver on education and other projects.”

He asked Kenyans to rally behind the current ruling administration and ignore leaders engaging in divisive and tribal politics.

“Let’s unite and support the government to achieve its development agenda. We must reject self-centered leaders who promote ethnic division.”

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) board chairman Benjamini Tayari in attendance backed the call for unity and ethical leadership.

According to him politicians should use their platforms to foster national cohesion, especially as the country faces significant economic challenges.

The former MP of Kinango took a swipe at former deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of promoting tribal politics during his recent visit to the United States.

“Kenyans must support President Ruto in his quest to unite the country,” he said.

The event, which brought together leaders and community members, served as a platform to highlight the growing concern over the state of education funding and the dangers of divisive politics.

The leaders collectively emphasized the importance of national unity, warning that tribal politics threaten social cohesion and hinder meaningful development. They urged the public to reject leaders who incite divisions based on ethnicity, religion, or origin.

“True development cannot be achieved if the country remains divided,” said Kipsigs community chairman Ernest Kipto. “We must come together regardless of our ethnic or political differences.”
