A Mombasa law court has cleared a County Assembly former official over corruption allegations for lack of evidence.

The senior public relations officer Trizer Wawuda Mwanyika was acquitted of all the charges leveled against her.

Mombasa chief magistrate Alex Ithuku dismissed the case against her saying the allegations were baseless and unfounded.

Trizer is accused of fraudulently awarding a tender to supply goods worth Ksh870,000 to Kuri Suppliers. However, the allegations were never substantiated.

“The accused person did not participate in all this and the count against the accused is not proved beyond any reasonable doubt.

The second accused is hereby acquitted under section 215 of the Penal Code,” the magistrate declared in his judgement.

Trizer was also accused of having issued two requisitions in relation to the supply of the same goods. Again, allegations the prosecution failed to substantiate beyond reasonable doubt.

However, the magistrate, in his judgement, said the prosecution confirmed that the requisitions for two Macbook laptops, one convertible printer and a nikon camera were delivered and received by the County Assembly.

The prosecution did not adduce evidence for the second requisition and the second accused (Trizer Wawuda Mwanyika) was not involved in the rest of the procurement process according to the magistrate through his judgement dated 20th June, 2024.

The judgement finally brings to an end an eight year case that saw Trizer, formerly a Mombasa based Baraka FM editor, charged over corruption as a senior public relations officer at the County Assembly of Mombasa.

She falls in the list of many a public relations officers in the county governments facing court battles that take several years to resolve.

In the process, the accused end up losing their jobs and resources, for baseless allegations.
