Family Bank has opened a new branch in Kilifi County as it seeks to strengthen its hold in the Coast region.

Situated in Kilifi Town’s central business district (CBD), the 96th branch countrywide focuses on supporting business communities particularly known as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), County government employees, tourists among other groups and individuals.

Speaking during the opening, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer Nancy Njau, said the branch opening was in line with their 2025 – 2029 strategic plan of expanding their geographical presence across the country and to expand market share in the banking industry.

“This expansion underscores the bank’s commitment to supporting Kenyan’s burgeoning business hub and enhancing access to banking services for micro, small and medium enterprises,” she said.

She stated that the opening of the lender signals commitment to addressing the needs of the people and bridging the gap to financial exclusivity across the country.

“It is all about establishing a deeper connection with the customers, whether you are a business person in need of financial boost or an employee, we are here and ready to serve you,” said Nancy.

The Kilifi outlet joins a growing network of family bank branches, making it the eight largest money lenders in Kenya by branch count, with operations now covering 32 counties.

The bank also boasts over 1.2 million customers, 6,000 bank agents and 75,000 merchants nationwide.

Branch Manager Peter Tsuma, said the branch will offer a wide array of services including digital banking options.

Vincent Mwakio, a businessman, said the new branch was long overdue.

According to him, he revealed that customers were forced to travel to either Mtwapa or Malindi where the bank had branches.

“I have been banking with this money institution for many years but the biggest challenge was the lack of a branch in Kilifi town. The nearest was in Mtwapa about 40 kilometres from Kilifi town. This inconvenienced us a lot,” said Mwakio.

As of December 2024, the Family Bank had total assets of ksh. 168.5 billion and a deposit base of ksh126.4 billion.

The bank bagged the excellence in customers responsiveness awards in 2024 and also named the best Tier-Two Bank for the fifth year running in the Kenyan Bankers Association Customers Satisfaction and Digital Banking Experience Survey.
