Rotary Allocates Sh1.5 Billion Grants for Humanitarian Aid

The Rotary District, one of the world’s largest service organization, has allocated Ksh1.5 billion to implement programs targeting to help the vulnerable people in four East Africa countries.

The assistance will be focused on helping women and maternal health; water and sanitation; and environment crises and education sector.

The Rotary District 9212, which encompasses Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Eritrea, says the resources in form of grants will be used to support projects in transforming lives and humanity across the borders.

The 9212 district governor Dr Joe Kamau said as they celebrate 100 years of Rotary transformation in Africa, the agency would not relent on partnering with respective governments to support the needy in the community.

Speaking in Mombasa on May 16, 2025, during the–District Conference and Awards Ceremony (DCA), Dr Kamau affirmed the agency commitment towards impacting lives of the vulnerable and the poor in communities.

“We don’t have direct support from the government,we partner with the respective governments during pandemics On areas of maternal health, education and water distribution,” he said.

He added, “As we commemorate 100 years of Rotary in Africa, let us honor the legacy of service, integrity, and fellowship that has been the cornerstone of our organisation.

Reflecting on the impact made and lives touched, let this inspire us to continue with renewed vigor and determination.”

Kenya’s DCA chair, Violet Kairu says the District Conference brings together hundreds of Rotarians and leaders from the Rotary in Africa and beyond with an aim of taking stock and setting next goals.

The Rotary District has ventured on supporting with drilling boreholes to nomadic communities, supporting those who cannot access education and creating economic empowerment projects to the poor.

“We have been impacting communities for the past 100 years, and we are glad to continue doing so, air of our projects will be done in conjunction with the county governments because we do the same job,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of Mombasa governor Abdulswamand Nassir, Mombasa trade CEC Mohamed Osman said the county would continue to partner with Rotary clubs in areas of interest.

“We are committed as a county to ensure we partner with them on disease eradication, healthcare, water supply and other ventures that supports the poor,” he said.

The meeting seeks to outline vision for the Rotary in the next 100 years with a mission to care for the community and impact lives without discrimination.

The meeting in Mombasa marks the start of celebrating a century of transformative region and beyond to reflect on the legacy of Rotary and chart a course for future services.
