Kenyans Post Exemplary Results in Global Onboard Training

Kenyans emerge tops at the South Korea’s Global Onboard Training Program (GOBT) 2024 after concluding their training with remarkable results.
Cadets Esther Wanjala, Chepkirui Chebole and Nowel Watiiri beats odds to ensure Kenya was ranked 1st (engineering) and 3rd overall in deck department among the 13 participating countries.
The Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) cadets’ achievements showcased its strength and dedication in its curriculum and training of maritime studies.
This achievement has put the country on the map its strong presence in maritime education that has been strengthened by the academy’s commitment to fostering excellence in the maritime and blue economy sectors.
The GOBT program provided Kenyan cadets with invaluable hands-on training, thus, enhancing their professional competencies and setting them apart in international maritime standards.
In attendance to mark the occasion was Kenya’s ambassador to South Korea Emmy Kipsoi, who met with the cadets and expressed her satisfaction of their performance.
She commended the efforts of BMA and the Kenyan government in promoting maritime education to exploit the vast blue economy sectors.
This success story underscores the strategic support provided by principal secretary (PS) state department of shipping and maritime affairs Geoffrey Kaituko who has been instrumental in advancing maritime training and fostering international partnerships.
Through the secretary’s guidance and dedication, the Kenyan cadets thrived on the global stage, thus, reinforcing the importance of maritime skill development for national growth.
BMA CEO Dr Eric Katana congratulated the cadets saying the academy’s commitment to equip future maritime professionals with knowledge and skills was on course for the needed global excellence.
BMA deputy director of maritime education and training Eng. Titus Kilonzi, who is also the coordinator for the GOBT 2024 between Kenyan trainees and Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT) said BMA’s participation in GOBT reflected the academy’s growing partnerships and dedication to produce world-class maritime professionals.
