Over 100 locals in Mombasa County have been nabbed by the authorities for flouting the no travel directive in COVID hit counties since the lock down began a week ago.
Mombasa county commissioner (CC) Gilbert Kitiyo speaking to the media in Mombasa on Monday said the operators were travelling from Mombasa to Kilifi and Kwale counties.
Kitiyo said they are expected to be taken before a court of law based on the gravity of their offences.
“Not all the offenders will be taken to court. The officers manning those areas will consider the weight of the offence before they are taken to court,” he said.
The county commissioner called on the locals in the county to adhere to the directive saying those found on the wrong hands of the law will be taken to court.
Kitiyo however admitted that currently those caught in the lockdown are experiencing a tough moment complaining of being stigmatized.
“People must abide by this law. This is for their own benefit,” Kitiyo said.
The CC further adds motorcyclist and tuk tuk operators plying the high way are taken back to their mother counties.
